An invitation from the Programme Director
The M.Soc.Sc. (Counselling) programme was first launched in September 2002, with the aim of providing counsellor training for professionals in the human services. Since its inception, the student population spans from social workers and teachers through to administrative and medical personnel such as executive officers, managers, doctors and nurses, physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists. The mutual stimulation arising from such diverse backgrounds in the student population has been seen by both teachers and students as most inspiring in the process of teaching and learning. The bonding amongst students who all struggle and juggle between full-time work and part-time study has evolved as an unexpected feature in the programme, culminating into the formation of an alumni association by the graduating class of 2005.
The following statistics may provide a glimpse of the achievement of the programme so far:
NUMBER OF GRADUATES
| Year | No. of graduates | Distinction |
| 2004 | 49 | 10 |
| 2005 | 60 | 7 |
| 2006 | 63 | 10 |
| 2007 | 58 | 13 |
| 2008 | 58 | 15 |
| Total | 288 | 55 |
May we extend an invitation to all those who are interested in counselling as a prospective career to join us in an expedition into not only the theories and practices of counselling, but also to re-experience student life with its joys and tears in a community of dedicated professionals.
Dr. Ng Ho Yee
Programme Director (2002-2008)
